Cron task versus MYSQL Event Scheduler

I'm trying to find out to either use a php cron tasks or a mysql event scheduler.
Not finding too many pros and cons on the web. This question is purely based on a database task that needs to aggregate data from different tables and delete and load it into anther table, that can consume up to 100k lines per task and runs on an hourly basis. There is a table of course that defines if the aggregation needs to be done or not. I'm trying to find out which of the 2 is the best fit for this problem based on maintenance, reliability, logging, potential database overload or other issues that I didn't think about.

found a candidate duplicate now, but I guess the question here is more specific stackoverflow.com/questions/14805742/cronjob-or-mysql-event
